Michael Eve teaches sociology in the Department of Law, Political, Economic and Social Science in the University of Eastern Piedmont. He has undertaken research on the social trajectories of migrants in the labour market and on those of children of migrants at school and work. His analyses have often explored the role social networks have in determining trajectories. He has compared different kinds of migration trajectories (internal migration and international migration, skilled migration and mass labour migration, migration via the asylum channel) using the results to compare effects of migration itself independently of ethnicity. He believes this is useful to loosen the often criticized ‘ethnic lens’.  

Michael Eve insegna sociologia nel Dipartimento di Giurisprudenza, scienze politiche, economiche e sociali dell’Università del Piemonte orientale. Ha svolto ricerche sulle traiettorie sociali dei migranti nel mercato del lavoro e sui percorsi dei figli dei migranti nel sistema d’istruzione e nel mercato del lavoro. Nelle sue analisi ha spesso sottolineato il ruolo delle reti sociali nella determinazione delle traiettorie sociali. Ha confrontato diversi tipi di migrazioni (migrazioni interne e migrazioni internazionali, migrazioni qualificate e labour migration, migrazioni attraverso il canale umanitario) per capire meglio gli effetti sociali della migrazione in sé indipendentemente dall’etnicità. Crede che questi confronti possano avere un ruolo importante per allentare la ethnic lens spesso criticata.
