Training - Concluded projects

Alongside its research activities, FIERI is also involved in training projects and exchange schemes for young researchers.
Civic initiative for the city of Alessandria. Training for foreign citizens. On behalf of the Alessandria city council, FIERI organised a series of events addressed at foreign citizens. This initiative enters into the context of a training programme on the new opportunities for participation recently opened up by the council itself, with the modification of its statute.
In 2007, FIERI hosted a researcher from the University of Bamberg in the context of activities initiated by the IMISCOE Network of Excellence, of which FIERI is the only Italian partner.
‘Il fare comune’ (‘Working together’) – Supporting activities undertaken by local bodies in order to develop human resources and promote local development. FIERI contributed to the design and creation of the ‘Interculturality and Integration’ module in a training programme organized by the Valle D’Aosta Region for administrators and local decision makers.
The aim of the activities proposed was to support the local administrators’ capacities for developing (designing, implementing and assessing) local policy, by means of exploring the main issues regarding immigration.
FIERI contributed to the creation of the first edition of the summer school Migration: Challenges and Opportunities for Europe (8-19 September 2008), organized by the European Training Foundation (ETF), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the Faculty of Law of the University of Turin and the Istituto Universitario di Studi Europei (IUSE).
Immigration. The toolbox.  The aim of this project, financed by the Compagnia di San Paolo, has been to create a short printed volume on the theme of immigration, in order to address at least in part the existing lacunae on this issue in the context of professional training.
The book aims to offer a general overview of the phenomenon, ways to interpret the main issues concerned, and operative tools for dealing with it in a suitable manner, starting from examples of good practices that can serve as an opportunity for reflection and represent a useful starting point for preparing practical initiatives or improving existing ones. The manual is currently being published with Carocci Editore.
